President Bola Tinubu has backed Amaji Pinnick’s re-election to the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) Council.
Pinnick, the second-term President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), was elected to the Council in March 2021, becoming the third Nigerian after the late Oyo Orok Oyo and Dr. Amos Adamu.
“Mr. Pinnick seeks re-election to the Council, and President Tinubu supports Nigeria’s bid to retain its seat in the Council,” presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale said in a statement on Tuesday.
“President Bola Tinubu expresses strong support for Nigeria’s bid for re-election into the FIFA Council.”
Between FIFA Congresses, the FIFA Council serves as the organization’s primary decision-making organ.
The Council comprises 37 members elected by the FIFA Congress for a renewable term of four years.
