President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to address the nation at 7 a.m. on Wednesday in commemoration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day anniversary.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the President’s speech will be broadcast live on Channels Television and other electronic media platforms.
This marks President Tinubu’s third Independence Day address since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
The address is part of events outlined by the Federal Government to celebrate Nigeria’s independence. The theme for this year’s anniversary is “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
The Federal Government explained that the theme highlights the importance of unity, patriotism, and collaboration among government, private sector, civil society, and citizens in fostering peace, progress, and prosperity. It also reflects Nigeria’s resilience since independence in 1960 while emphasizing the need to build on past achievements under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Other scheduled activities include a Juma’at prayer on Friday, September 26, and an inter-denominational church service on Sunday, September 28.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government on Monday announced the cancellation of the parade earlier planned for October 1. The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, clarified that the cancellation “is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary,” adding that the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with “dignity and enthusiasm.”
