President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Lagos on January 6, 2025 for Accra, Ghana, to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Mahama on January 7, 2025.

This was announced in a statement on Sunday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s 12th president from 2011 to 2017, was re-elected in December 2024. He will succeed President Nana Akufo-Addo, who served from 2017 to 2025.

Onanuga noted that Tinubu’s visit is at the invitation of Mahama, who visited the Nigerian leader in December. He added, “Mahama and Tinubu share a longstanding personal relationship, akin to the strong bilateral ties between Nigeria and Ghana.”

As Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Tinubu will join other African leaders at the inauguration. He will be accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior officials.
