Tinubu, wife storm Ijebuland for Awujale’s Fidau Prayer

President Bola Tinubu departed Abuja on Sunday for Ijebu, Ogun State, to honour the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.

The President visited the South-Western state to attend the eighth-day Fidau prayer held in memory of the revered monarch.

Accompanied by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, President Tinubu landed at the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, Iperu-Remo, at exactly 12:45 p.m.

Before leaving Abuja, the President greeted officials at the airport and later received a warm welcome in Ogun State. Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and his wife led the delegation that received him. Also present were former Governor Olusegun Osoba, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, and several paramount rulers and traditional chiefs from Ogun State.

Upon arrival, the President inspected a guard of honour before proceeding to the Igbeba Family Court in Ijebu-Ode, where he offered prayers at the tomb of the late monarch and condoled with his immediate family.

Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland, died on July 13 at the age of 91 and was buried the following day in accordance with Islamic rites. The respected traditional ruler, who reigned for an extraordinary 65 years, was regarded as one of Nigeria’s longest-serving and most influential royal figures. His death marks the end of an era in Nigeria’s traditional leadership.
