The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Gabam, has warned that President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies could hinder his chances of re-election in 2027.

Gabam criticised policies such as the removal of petrol subsidies, forex unification, electricity tariff hikes, and telecoms tariff increases, saying they have made life difficult for Nigerians.

He urged Tinubu to reconsider some policies and reshuffle his cabinet if he wants to leave a lasting legacy.

“With the way things are going, I don’t see him surviving another election,” Gabam said on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande on Channels Television.

He compared the current situation to protests against former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012, which ultimately led to his electoral defeat.

Gabam also accused the Tinubu government of hostility towards opposition voices, saying it should amend the constitution if it wants a one-party state.

Additionally, he denied allegations that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) paid opposition parties ₦50 million bribes to weaken them ahead of the next election.

“For the SDP, there is no transaction between us and the Federal Government,” he said.
