The minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun, has stated that the recent engagement between President Bola Tinubu and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, signals positive prospects for the Nigerian economy.

President Tinubu, currently on a state visit to France, held discussions with Macron on Thursday, during which several agreements were signed between the two nations.

Edun, who is part of the President’s delegation to France, spoke exclusively to Channels Television on Friday, noting that the dialogue between the two leaders “augurs well for employment, job creation, and the growth of Nigeria’s industries.”

President Tinubu Commends Macron

President Tinubu lauded Macron’s commitment, noting that Nigeria’s ongoing reforms are poised to stabilise the economy and attract investments, making the country fully open for business.

Macron, in turn, encouraged both the public and private sectors in France to increase their investment efforts to support Nigeria’s economic development.

Areas of Collaboration

Edun highlighted that both nations agreed to collaborate in various sectors, including agriculture, finance, housing, and technology.

“In essence, during extensive discussions involving several ministers from both sides and the two nations’ leaders, a mutual commitment was made to focus on initiatives that enhance food security, solid minerals development, and other critical areas,” Edun said.

He also noted the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on solid minerals and agreements spanning finance, infrastructure, healthcare, technology, housing, and more.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Edun further explained that both countries had issued a directive to deepen public sector cooperation and encouraged French businesses to seize the emerging opportunities as Nigeria’s economy stabilises.

During a state dinner hosted by the French government at the Palais des Élysée in Paris on Thursday night, President Tinubu expressed his appreciation for the cordial relations between the two countries.

He praised President Macron for his goodwill and dedication to fostering stronger bilateral ties, expressing optimism that this collaboration would benefit not just Nigeria but the entire African continent.
