Traditional ruler call on Defence Minister to speak on alleged missing $1bn arms fund

The Minister of Defence, Maj Gen. Bashir Magashi (rtd), has been advised to break silence and clarify what happened to the $1billion released by the Federal Government for the procurement of arms and ammunition under the immediate past service Chiefs which were unaccounted for.
Olowu of Kuta, near Iwo in Osun State, Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, Tegbosun III, gave the advice while reacting to the current security threats bedevilling the country in an exclusive chat with Newsclickng.com.
The Monarch said that Nigerians deserve to know how the money released by President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for the procurement was expended as it will help to douse the dust been raised by some Nigerians about the funds.
Oba Makama who laud Nigerian soldiers for defending the country’s territory, laying down their lives while battling Boko Haram terrorists, urged Nigerians to be security- conscious and report all suspicious movement to security agents.
The Olowu of Kuta noted that insecurity has become a hydra headed monster which security agents in Nigeria appear incapable of handling vis-a-vis its multifaceted manifestations like bombing, murderous herders, kidnapping, raping and destruction of lives and property.
The traditional ruler said other matters of concern include intra-inter-party rancour; porous borders; chronic unemployment, jobs racketeering and illiteracy.
He advised the federal government to allow for dialogue through the convocation of a conference of ethnic and minority groups to fine-tune a more peaceful way-forward for Nigeria.
President Muhammadu Buhari on January 26, replaced the erstwhile service chiefs headed by Gabriel Olonishakin, the former chief of defence staff, Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, Chief of Air Staff, Abubakar Sadique and Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok Ibas over the issue of insecurity in the country.
