Five people lost their lives in a tragic road accident near the Sanyo area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

According to the Oyo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the accident, which occurred around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, involved seven vehicles, including articulated trucks, a commercial “Micra” taxi, and private cars.

The victims comprised three females and two males.

FRSC Public Education Officer Mayowa Odewo explained that the crash was triggered when a trailer attempting to reverse out of an abandoned filling station along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway was struck from behind by another trailer.

The impact caused a chain reaction as more trucks collided with the vehicles in quick succession.

The trailers rammed into smaller vehicles, including commercial taxis and private cars. One of the Micra taxis was completely crushed, killing the driver and three passengers instantly.

In addition to the fatalities, one person sustained critical injuries, while five others suffered minor injuries.

The deceased have been taken to Adeoyo Hospital, while the injured are receiving treatment.

Authorities have cleared the wreckage and transported the damaged vehicles to the Sanyo Police Station for further investigation.

Meanwhile, normalcy is gradually returning to the area, with FRSC officials, traffic police, and other security agencies working together to ease the traffic gridlock caused by the accident.
