An unidentified trailer driver has reportedly fallen off the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway bridge between Berger, Lagos State, and Isheri, Ogun State, a police officer told newsmen on Saturday.

Reports indicate that a trailer collided with the bridge, causing the front section of the trailer to dangle over the edge of the bridge.

According to the police officer who spoke with newsmen on the condition of anonymity, the accident took place in the early hours of Saturday. However, he mentioned that the cause of the accident had not been determined at the time of filing this report.

Our correspondent, who visited the accident site, observed the presence of both the Nigerian Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps. They were actively ensuring the smooth flow of traffic and safeguarding lives and property.

The policeman, stating that he had recently arrived at the scene, shared that initial investigations indicated the driver fell off the bridge due to the accident.

He said, “We got here about 10 minutes ago (8:00 am) and we heard that the driver fell off the bridge. That is the information we have at hand now.

“We are yet to ascertain what caused the accident, we have no information on the whereabouts of the driver, and neither can we ascertain yet if there were casualties,” he added.

However, attempts to interview eyewitnesses proved unsuccessful, as no one was willing to comment on the cause of the accident, the status of the driver, or whether there were any casualties.

On January 2, two individuals lost their lives, and 10 others sustained injuries in separate crashes that occurred on New Year’s Day along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The isolated accident took place at approximately 8 am near Isara Remo, the administrative center of Remo North Local Government Area in Ogun State, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

It resulted in the death of two passengers, while three others sustained injuries. The injured individuals were transported to Victory Hospital Ogere for medical care, and the deceased were placed in the morgue at Isara General Hospital.
