[TRENDING VIDEO] Catholic priest rejects Tinubu-branded rice given to him to share with church members

A Catholic priest of the Diocese of Warri in Delta State has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government after rejecting a 50kg bag of rice bearing President Bola Tinubu’s image and the “Renewed Hope Ambassadors” logo, which he said was given to him for distribution to members of his parish.

In a video that has circulated widely on social media, the priest, speaking from what appeared to be a church premises, condemned the distribution of branded food items, arguing that the government should focus on addressing the root causes of the country’s economic hardship rather than offering palliatives.

He also criticised the timing of such distributions, noting that they often become more frequent as elections approach, and described the practice as an example of poor governance.

The cleric further questioned the amount of public funds allegedly being spent on palliative programmes instead of implementing policies aimed at improving the living conditions of Nigerians.

The 50kg bag of rice displayed in the video featured President Tinubu’s photograph, the colours of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the inscription, “The Renewed Hope Ambassadors – 50kg Rice.”

According to the priest, the rice was handed to him to distribute to members of his congregation. However, he declined to do so, using the opportunity to call for long-term economic solutions instead of politically branded relief materials.
