[TRENDING VIDEO] “I am just tired,” Outrage trails as engineer-turned-delivery rider shares emotional plea amid hardships

18

Social media has been buzzing with mixed reactions following a viral video of a trained mechanical engineer who was forced into working as a dispatch rider due to a lack of opportunities, only to face daily harassment and severe economic hardship in Lagos.

He said he left his field five years ago due to no opportunities and now faces daily harassment from police, agberos, LASTMA, VIO, road safety, and demanding customers in Lagos traffic.

Visibly distressed in the video, he appeals for help to relocate abroad and resume engineering, promising to repay any support.

In part he said, “I am tired of this depression. Being a dispatch rider is not easy. No dispatch rider can come out to say they enjoy doing the job; circumstance brought some of us into this job. I am a professional mechanical engineer, but I have no customers and I need to feed my family. That’s why I found myself doing this job, but ever since I started, I have had no peace of mind. Police, agbero, LASTMA will disturb you. Why? I am just tired.”

The clip has highlighted the struggles of skilled workers in Nigeria’s tough economy, including unemployment, mental strain, and survival challenges for delivery riders.

Here are reactions to the story:

Alhaji (@themainalhaji): E-hailing in Lagos should be among 1000 ways to die. If you haven’t experienced it, you won’t really understand. From doing ‘uber’ to riding dispatch bike, you go wan craze from different extortions from police, road safety, VIO, lastma coupled with inflation. Fucking shit hole!

Nonnero Drew (@Nonnero): Hardship no get tribe or religion. Everyone dey feel am. With the mistakes of 2015 down to 2026(12 solid years), no one should tell u who to vote 4 in d comin election. Good governance solves issues like dis but some prefer language to good governance. ONCE BITTEN, TWICE SHY!

Our Area (@OurAreaDotCom): For a full grown man to be shedding tears like this in public? Nah….E red true true. Be strong bro. That’s the only option you have because this country is a dog eat dog jungle. Tell yourself you must survive against all odds and you will. Nigeria is actually the problem of Nigeria because tell me the business a simple dispatch rider has with agberos and other ones I no wan mention? This is why many people are embracing crimes daily and turning their backs on responsible jobs because we live in a country where the citizens basically endure punishments every day all in the name of doing life

King MOB (@KingMOBthe4th): Lagos is not a normal place for normal human being, because an occultic man has handed it over to the underworld, that’s why there’s no peace for the people living there. Whether you live in Lagos or not, as far as you are there you can never have peace

Samtech90 (@Samtech90): This one de act content?? Oga blame your Tulumbu government oo.. all of us go hear

Ofem Global Services (@Mar…): Guy all of us de face hardship.. eeee no get wer eeee really easy as you think am

Professor (@T0pboy1): He’s not even lying .. even if your documents are complete they must find one thing to hold you for .. normal bike work wey you suppose de see like 30 – 50k daily .. you go de go house with less than 20k after expenses because you no work well due to these road miscreants

Sule Jonathan (@Eljonathan…): Bro don’t kill yourself, things can change at anytime

SiSi TrAnZ4MeRs (@0156c6…): This is just sad..and people will still vote for this government nxt election

beyondBorders (@ImohLouis): Here is a man expressing what others suffering in silence, yet he’sbold enoughto voice it out. Nigerian is not for the weak. The crop of wicked and selfish leaders, coupled with the ineffective system of things is enough to wear down one’s spirit

kamsijfa (@kamsijfa): The amount of harassment and disturbance these guys go through in the hands of agberos in Lagos is one hell of a thing and I dare say it’s enough to frustrate someone like this guy obviously is right now. Lagos except under Gov Ambode is a toxic place for many business and somehow nobody cares

Emperor (@Emperor0190): He’ll tell you that he’d vote APC again without thinking twice let them suffer

Master Chief (@Dannyrockie): What caught my attention was his looks. He has a striking resemblance to Wande Coal. For a minute, i thought he was the one. Anyway, a family man cannot survive doing this type of job. It will be difficult considering the amount of fuel you have to buy and burn. M.C

ISMAIL (@Oyewalelsm906): Sometimes people are not doing the job they love, they are simply doing what they need to survive. Nobody should have to lose their peace of mind just trying to feed their family. I pray things get better for him soon

ADENIYI HAMMED ADEYEMI (@…): I tink sau na only me.same mess i dey experienced.mine s even Transportation…dis BAT lastma,VIO,MOT&dere oga which re d agberos dnt make me give up on 9ja.even wen u r trying to d a legitimate buzz to earns a livinv…dis govt wudnt allow it to succeed

3Generations (@OCChikwen…): Power, its one uniform man to a thousand civilians or bloody civilians

Michael (@itzmichaelcore): It’s not enough to come out and cry. Let us get our PVC and vote wisely. Imagine if this government returns for a second term. This one we are crying, people will be committing suicide

Godsway Is The Only Way (@…): If care is not taken Apc government thugs, police officer will push Nigerians to violent #endsars kind of madness. But this time around, it will be so bloody that it might lead complete separation of this country. Nigerians are completely broken πŸ’”πŸ˜. A small spark, then it over

M_I_T_C_H (@SmallMitch09): See the P is the cost of living is too high for Nigerians, we have seen better days, on a normal day this guy could manage his funds if he was in 2011-2015 era, he could save and still feed well but now, inflation would nearly take his life. Vote wisely next year!

iNvInCible SLΔ«cKβ€’ETHπŸ’Ž (@…): Some people who have not tasted life without help or handout will come here and want to advise, it’s a pity that gradually we in Nigeria are decomposing without even knowing what living a life means. Some we say pray, your useless abrahamic gods brought all this conquest

In My Opinion (@JD_happy…): This is one of so many cases that we get to see. there are so many who have committed suicide because of the level of hardship they face, we don’t get to see that one. Nigeria is finished

kayjay… (@Kayjay1500): I can’t even watch it ..it’s heartbreaking seeing my fellow man in tears cause of harsh conditions πŸ’”

Aaaramide (@OLOLADE1): What do you mean no customer? Demand for mechanic service is as vast as the countless cars on Lagos roads. It’s the patience to do honest job paying modestly, that’s the ish

Castrol (@castrolt06): I remember this guy for polling unit when he dey campaigne for tinubu….. You sing pass wandecoal pele ?.. wandecole ❌wande patch βœ…

FootballNed (@CJude52588): If you have not try inhaling business you won’t understand the level of mental distress he’s going through especially Lagos ohhhhhhh God thank you for saving me that’s all I can say

G❀T (@Szim001): This is a lot reason why some many people will rather do APC dirty job. Atleast to see food chop. This country is hell πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”

Omega (@OMEGA71574482): I honestly felt bad seeing a grown man cry in this manner. He is saying the fact, while driving daily on Lagos road we see this harassment happening. This is the Lagos they claimed someone built.Every Agberos in Lagos is APC supporter, because they found protection by the government

Mailer_II (@Mailer_II): This is painful to read. A person can be highly qualified and still be forced into survival mode when the opportunities aren’t there. There is no shame in doing honest work to feed your family. The shame is in a society where a professional engineer has to risk his life on the road just to survive, while constantly being harassed. May God open the right door for this man and give him peace, stability and an opportunity to practice what he trained for. πŸ™

Great Affluence (@DitoAmak…): He deserves all the love and support he can get from Nigerians. I pray luck finds him and helpers of destiny locate him

Mr Imbuya (@Imbuya_media): A man knows no greater pain or fear than doing all he legitimately can and still being unable to feed his family or provide them with the basics, especially when his source of livelihood is constantly threatened by agents of the very government that inflicted the hardship. From Lagos to Abuja, Tinubu’s maladministration and failed policies are making grown men cry. And this is the reality for many fathers and mothers in Nigeria today, except that they haven’t cried out publicly like him. Yet, a certain Dayo Israel β€” not even near the top of the selfish APC’s food chain β€” flaunts sudden and unexplained wealth in the faces of already shortchanged and frustrated Nigerians. When Nigerians eventually push back, it is this disdain and utter disregard for their feelings that will cause even more angst than the maladministration and cronyism themselves. Something has to give, and soon β€” because we simply cannot continue like this
