A market woman has stirred controversy after making remarks against the Igbo people while declaring her support for President Bola Tinubu to complete his eight-year tenure.

In a video circulating on social media, the woman, who said she was from Delta State, argued that Tinubu should be allowed to serve two terms, just like his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.

She said, “An Igbo Man Cannot Be The President Of Nigeria Because They’re Betrayers. I’m From Delta State, And I’m Supporting Tinubu To Complete His 8 Years. Buhari Completed His 8 Years, So Tinubu Should Be Allowed To Do The Same. Besides, Tinubu Is Not The One Who Scattered The Country.”

Her comments have drawn attention amid ongoing political discussions about ethnic representation, national unity and the race for the presidency ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Tinubu assumed office in May 2023 and is constitutionally eligible to seek re-election in 2027 for a second four-year term.

The woman’s remarks about the Igbo people may also fuel debate over ethnic stereotypes and the role of such sentiments in Nigeria’s political landscape.
