At the inaugural Presidential Press Corps Dinner in Abuja, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu affectionately nicknamed First Lady Oluremi Tinubu “Iya Alakara,” referencing her recent advice for women to sell affordable snacks like fried bean cakes amid economic challenges.

The remark followed controversy over her comments on small businesses during a period of high food inflation, with online reactions divided between supporters praising the President’s humour and critics describing the comment as insensitive, especially given the country’s economic and security challenges.

Beyond the light-hearted moment, Tinubu urged journalists to prioritise facts over sensationalism, highlighted what he described as economic gains and anti-terror efforts, and was honoured as Grand Patron of the Presidential Press Corps.
