[TRENDING VIDEO] Netizens react as suspected bandits ambush police bus, kill at least five officers in Zamfara

At least five police officers were killed when suspected bandits ambushed a bus carrying personnel from Sokoto to Zamfara on Monday, while they were travelling to a special duty assignment.

Videos circulating online appeared to show officers in camouflage with their hands and feet tied. Their bodies were later taken to Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto. Some reports said there may also have been abductions, but this has not been confirmed.

A senior Zamfara security official described banditry in the state as an “industry” and pointed to recent arrests of local figures over alleged links to armed groups.

The attack adds to a series of assaults in Nigeria’s North-West. It has prompted protests and expressions of grief for the officers, remembered as fathers, husbands and sons.
