Social media has been buzzing following the arrest of a woman in Imo State who allegedly locked her 13-year-old housemaid inside before heading to the market, and then brutally flogging her upon her return for a late sale of bitter leaf.

Security forces forced entry to rescue the victim after her ordeal was captured on video, drawing widespread online condemnation.

While many netizens expressed outrage over the cruelty and demanded strict legal consequences for child abuse, others highlighted broader issues surrounding child domestic labor and raised discussions involving ethnic stereotypes.

Here are some of the reactions from social media users:

Faye@4thave (@Faye4thave): Criminal charges against the woman, along with husband (conspiracy) if she has one. The moment both adults are held liable for the abuse of house helps, the moment it stops. Every adult that abused children, their images must stay circulated to avoid them ever gaining help again.
