Suspected Lakurawa militants attacked Waiwayi village in Kebbi State’s Koko Local Government Area, killing at least 20 people, setting homes ablaze and looting shops, according to conflict reporter Bakatsine.
The attack reportedly drove the entire village’s population to flee to Koko town, leaving families displaced.
Police have attributed some recent displacement in the area to clashes between vigilantes and herders amid rumours of cattle rustling. They have urged caution over unverified reports and said additional security personnel are being deployed.
