A police officer has reportedly died after a passenger bus collided with a security Hilux vehicle along Oron Road in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Friday, leaving several other passengers injured.
The accident occurred amid traffic restrictions imposed by the police ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the state to commission projects, including a newly constructed airport terminal and roads, as well as attend an APC rally.
Eyewitness accounts circulating online indicate that the bus was conveying women to the airport or stadium when it rammed into the security vehicle.
While some reports claim that as many as six passengers sustained serious injuries, other accounts allege that two women also lost their lives. However, these additional casualty claims have yet to be independently confirmed.
Residents were said to have helped rescue injured passengers from the wreckage. The incident has also sparked reactions on social media, with concerns raised over transportation arrangements and emergency response, particularly reports that no ambulance was available at the scene.
