The Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, Apostle Kassy Chukwu, has warned Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, against returning to the state to perform during the remainder of the governor’s tenure.

Chukwu made the statement in a video shared on YouTube by Peniel TV International Benin City, Nigeria, on Thursday, amid the ongoing disagreement between Davido and Governor Okpebholo.

The dispute began after Okpebholo criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle, during the build-up to the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.

In response, Davido shared what appeared to be Okpebholo’s WAEC result on his Instagram Story. The singer later defended the post during an interview, insisting that he had no reason to apologise.

Reacting to the development, Chukwu announced that Davido had been banned from performing in Edo State for the rest of Okpebholo’s administration.

“You have been banned from coming to Edo State to perform. We don’t want to see you in Edo again,” he said.

The governor’s aide accused the singer of making disrespectful comments about Okpebholo and his family, insisting that Davido would not be welcomed in the state for the remaining years of the administration.

Chukwu also claimed that some Edo youths were angry over Davido’s remarks and warned that the singer could receive an unfriendly reception should he return to the state.

“Edo youths are angry. They said if they catch you again, nobody should bring Davido to come and perform in any place again in Edo State,” he said.

He further criticised Davido’s earlier post about the governor’s academic record, alleging that the document had been manipulated and cautioning the singer against making similar posts in the future.

The disagreement between Davido and Okpebholo intensified during the Osun governorship campaign after the Edo governor criticised Adeleke’s dancing and questioned his conduct as governor.

Davido subsequently responded by sharing the alleged WAEC result of Okpebholo.

The singer later maintained that he would not apologise, arguing that he had only made public the academic record of a governor who travelled to Osun to campaign against his uncle.

Davido also criticised Okpebholo for leaving Edo to participate in the Osun election and questioned his electoral mandate.

The latest comments from the governor’s aide have sparked reactions on social media, with the video continuing to circulate as the disagreement between Davido and Okpebholo persists.
