Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has dismissed claims by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, that President Bola Tinubu provided N50bn for the upgrade of the Ibadan Airport.
Makinde insisted that the airport project was being funded solely by the Oyo State Government, stressing that the state had not received N50bn from the President for the project.
The governor was reacting to Wike’s claim that Tinubu gave him N50bn to support the expansion of the airport.
Wike had linked the alleged funding to the political support Makinde and other members of the Peoples Democratic Party’s G5 gave Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.
However, Makinde rejected the claim, describing it as false and maintaining that Oyo State was solely responsible for financing the airport upgrade.
The governor’s position has opened a fresh disagreement between the two politicians over the source of funds being used for the ongoing development of the Ibadan Airport.
The Oyo State Government had previously included the airport among major infrastructure projects targeted for development as part of its broader investment in the state.
Makinde’s latest comments directly contradict Wike’s account that the Federal Government provided N50bn for the airport project.
