The trial for the alleged murder of Water View Hotel’s Managing Director began on Wednesday in Kwara State’s High Court before Justice Haleema Saleeman.

The case began before magistrate court prior to the latest development.

The suspects, Joy Adanma Joseph (22) and her friend, Favour David (23) pleaded not guilty when the allegations were read to them in court.

The trial judge instructed the suspects who were weeping in the dock to “stop crying and speak up for me to be able to take proper record of your plea” at one point.
According to the charge sheet, they were accused of culpable homicide, which is punishable by death under Penal Code sections 97 and 221.

The sheet further accused them of planning to rob the dead while equipped with knives and his Infinix Handset, among other things.
Senior Ibrahim Sulyman, Attorney General of Kwara State, and Issa Zakari, Chief State Counsel, are representing the state in this lawsuit.

The suspects were represented by John Mayokun Dada.
Justice Saleeman, however, postponed the case until April 17, 2024.
