A petition by the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and the party alleging irregularities in the February 25 election has been dismissed by the presidential election tribunal sitting in Abuja.
While reading the judgement on the case, one of the five justices, Abba Mohammed, stated that the petitioners presented broad charges of irregularities against the respondent without specifying the polling units.
“In the trial, the petitioners will present spreadsheets, inspection reports, and forensic analysis as evidence of irregularities.”
“The documents promised by the petitioners were not attached to the petition and served on the respondents,” he added.
The Justice ruled that Obi and the Labour Party did not adequately detail their allegations of corrupt practices, vote suppression, fictitious results, and other irregularities in their petition.
Tribunal also dismisses LP/Obi’s Petition on 25 per cent needed to win the presidential election.
According to the court, FCT residents have no special privileges as the petitioners claimed.
The court has also rejected the reports of forensic analyses tendered by LP’s three witnesses. According to the court, they are either made during the pendency of the case or by an interested party.
This is as it rejected the European Union report on the polls, arguing that it was not tendered by an official of the body.
