Troops arrest suspected gunrunner, recover arms in Taraba

As part of ongoing operations across Taraba State under Operation Lafiya Nakowa, troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army / Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have apprehended a suspected gunrunner in Gassol Local Government Area.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops carried out a raid on Shagada Village in Namnai Ward, Gassol LGA, leading to the arrest of a 25-year-old suspect identified as Abdulmudallabi Audu, who was found in possession of arms and ammunition.

Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines, and fifty-three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, “the suspect and the recovered exhibits are currently in the custody of 6 Brigade Headquarters for further investigation and possible prosecution.”

Following the successful operation, the Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their vigilance, professionalism, and prompt response to actionable intelligence.

Uwa reaffirmed the brigade’s resolve to sustain intensified operations across Taraba State to ensure peace, security, and the protection of law-abiding citizens within the North-East and neighbouring regions.

He also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid ongoing efforts in dismantling criminal networks and restoring lasting peace in the state.
