Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 4 Brigade, operating under Operation Wabaizigan, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community while troops were carrying out operations aimed at disrupting criminal activities and securing major transport routes in the area.
The Army disclosed this in a statement, adding that one AK-47 rifle, a magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition were recovered from the suspect.
Other items recovered included a Tecno mobile phone, two bags, a torchlight, a music box and assorted charms.
The Army said the suspect and the recovered items remained in its custody as investigations continued.
It added that efforts were underway to establish Oyeniyi’s links with other criminal elements and determine whether he was involved in kidnapping and related activities along the route.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to restricting the activities of criminal groups and protecting communities and major transport corridors.
It also assured residents that coordinated operations with other security agencies would continue to strengthen security across Edo State.
