Troops arrest two suspects, recover AK-47 rifle in Taraba

Troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested two suspected kidnappers in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The operation, conducted on September 16, 2024, resulted in the seizure of an AK-47 rifle and a cache of ammunition.

According to a statement by Capt. Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, the operation was carried out based on intelligence that targeted the criminal syndicate known for armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal arms dealing.

The statement identified one of the apprehended individuals, Ali Tambaya from Wanzani village, as a key member of the syndicate. He was found in possession of the AK-47 rifle and 42 rounds of 7.62MM special ammunition.

During preliminary questioning, Tambaya admitted that he purchased the rifle for N500,000 from one Alhaji Dandi about five years ago and acquired the ammunition at N1,000 each.

He also mentioned that Alhaji Kiwo had given him 38 out of the 42 rounds for safekeeping.

Following the arrest, troops also apprehended Alhaji Dandi and are currently working to track down and arrest Alhaji Kiwo.

The Brigade commended the troops for their efforts and reiterated its commitment to eliminating criminal elements in Taraba State to ensure peace and stability for all citizens.

”We urged members of the public to continue to provide timely and accurate information to security forces, as the cooperation between the military and the civilian population remains vital to achieving lasting peace,” the statement added.
