Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have neutralised 48 Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters while repelling coordinated attacks on military formations in Borno and Yobe states.

The attacks were launched against military positions in Bitta, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, and the North East Theatre Training School (NETTS), located in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement shared on the Nigerian Army’s X handle on Friday.

Goni said the encounters occurred between October 29 and 30, 2026.

According to him, troops stationed in Bitta successfully repelled a terrorist offensive on the night of October 29. The ground forces, supported by air operations, overpowered the attackers and inflicted significant casualties, forcing them to withdraw from their planned assault.

In another operation, troops launched a counter-offensive against a large number of ISWAP fighters who attacked NETTS Buni Yadi from the evening of October 29 until the early hours of October 30.

The confrontation lasted about five hours and involved the deployment of intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) equipment, alongside coordinated air and ground operations under the supervision of the Theatre Command.

Goni further revealed that several weapons and ammunition were recovered from the scene after the fighting.

“Troops recovered a large quantity of weapons and ammunition after the fighting. The items include 42 AK-47 rifles, five PKT machine guns, four General Purpose Machine Guns, one 60mm mortar, 105 AK-47 magazines, two video cameras, and thousands of rounds of various calibres of ammunition,” Goni said.

The military, however, confirmed that one soldier was killed during the operations, while two others suffered minor injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.

It added that the morale of the troops remained high despite the casualties recorded during the engagements.

The military described the successful operations as a significant setback for the terrorist groups, stating that their operational strength and capabilities in the North-East theatre had been substantially weakened.
