Troops of Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai, have thwarted an attempt by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to extort residents in Yobe State, dealing another blow to insurgent activities in the North-East.
The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles conveying suspected terrorists to collect illegal levies from communities.
According to him, troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bukarti, working with the 27 Task Force Brigade, launched an aggressive fighting patrol along the Paya Kafiya axis on July 19, 2026.
The troops encountered the terrorists and engaged them with superior firepower, immobilising one of the vehicles and neutralising its driver during the exchange of gunfire.
Captain Goni said four other suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes with gunshot wounds after failing to withstand the military offensive.
A follow-up operation conducted on July 20 along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis led to the recovery of the abandoned Volkswagen Golf vehicle, 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, a loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs, including paracetamol and nicotine products, as well as mechanical tools believed to have supported terrorist logistics.
The military reiterated its commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations in collaboration with other security agencies to eliminate terrorism and restore lasting peace across the region.
