Troops of Operation Hadarin Daji have eliminated a sought-after bandit leader, Halilu Sububu.

He was killed yesterday in an ambush by the troops in Kwaren Kirya, a community in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Sububu, originally from Niger Republic, lived in a forest in Zamfara State and frequently fled to Niger Republic after his operations in Nigeria.

He was known as a notorious gunrunner and also operated a successful illegal gold mining business in Bagega and other areas around Sumke forest in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Sububu had established a camp on the western side of Bagega, where he controlled the surrounding communities and mining sites.

He was declared wanted by the Defence Headquarters in May of this year.

In a coordinated operation by the combined troops of Sector One, Northwest Operation Hadarin Daji, Sububu was killed along with his 50 fighters.

Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa praised the troops for their success, expressing confidence that they could eliminate all bandit leaders operating in the Northwestern region of Nigeria.

He warned that notorious bandit leader Bello Turji and other terrorists are under increasing pressure as the troops remain dedicated to ending insecurity in Zamfara and the Northwest Zone.

General Musa also announced the establishment of a joint military theatre operation, code-named ‘Operation Fansar Yamma Northwest,’ to address the spread of insecurity in the region.
