Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) has reported that its troops have successfully neutralized three suspected armed herdsmen who launched an attack on deployed troops in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.

General Sunday Igbinomwanhia, the Force Commander of OPWS, revealed this information on Monday in Makurdi during a press briefing on the incident.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) notes that OPWS operates in Nasarawa, Taraba, and Benue States.

Igbinomwanhia stated that during the attack, the armed herdsmen fatally wounded one personnel and injured another, who is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Makurdi.

He further mentioned that the remaining troops are conducting a clearance operation to eradicate suspected armed foreign herders who have encroached upon Kwande LGA.

He alleged that the individuals causing unrest in certain villages in Kwande LGA are believed to be armed herdsmen infiltrating the country through the international border line between Nigeria and Cameroon.

In a separate incident, suspected herders reportedly killed three individuals in Kwande LGA on Sunday night.
