Troops of the Nigerian Army, involved in counterterrorism operations in the North West, along with the Nigeria Police and Katsina State Community Watch Corps, recently encountered terrorists in Danmusa within the Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State during a fighting patrol.
The confrontation led to a fierce gunfight, during which one terrorist was neutralized, and various arms and equipment were seized. The army reported that the items recovered included an AK-47 rifle, two rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition, a motorcycle, a bag containing four empty magazines, and a power bank, which could be utilized for communication or in explosive devices.
Additionally, in a separate event in Plateau State along the Maraban-Jema’a road in the Jos South Local Government Area, troops responded to a distress call regarding kidnapping activities. The kidnappers escaped upon the troops’ arrival, leaving behind a Peugeot 307 vehicle and two kidnap victims. The victims, Mr. Abdul Bello, the owner of the abandoned vehicle, and Miss Sekyen Melody Yapshak, were quickly taken to receive medical care.
The army’s statement emphasized the dedication of the military to work with other security agencies to address kidnapping and combat violent extremism in the region.
“The swift response and successful outcomes of these engagements demonstrate the effectiveness of interagency cooperation in addressing security challenges in the country,” the brief communique read it part.
