Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have recovered 56 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) allegedly planted by suspected terrorists on the Marte–Dikwa Bridge in Borno State.

The discovery was disclosed on Friday in a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X.

According to the report, the explosives were found during a clearance operation conducted by soldiers of the 24 Brigade in Dikwa, Borno State.

Makama noted that the IEDs were strategically planted by suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), intending to inflict mass casualties and obstruct both military and civilian movement along the route.

“The troops, acting on credible intelligence, uncovered the devices before detonation. A total of 56 prepared IEDs were recovered at the scene,” the post said.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was quickly deployed to safely remove and neutralize the devices.

Photos from the operation show the explosives laid across major parts of the bridge, which connects key towns in northern Borno.

Military authorities have reportedly maintained surveillance in the area while further clearance operations continue.
