Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army Sector 3, under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have rescued a kidnapped lecturer from Taraba State University, working in coordination with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The lecturer, Engineer Joshua Saleh, was abducted by suspected criminals on 31 July 2025 along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

In a statement released on Sunday, Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, Public Relations Officer of the 6 Brigade, explained that the rescue followed “credible and actionable intelligence.”

“Acting on the intelligence, troops and DSS operatives launched a targeted search and rescue mission across Kente, Tsondi 1 and 2, Yaku, and the Warawa general area,” he stated.

During the operation, troops confronted the kidnappers and engaged them in a gun battle. The criminals, overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower, fled the scene and abandoned the victim. The team safely rescued Saleh without injury.

Commander of the 6 Brigade NA/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the personnel for their swift action, professionalism, and effective collaboration with other security agencies.

He reiterated the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and ensuring peace across Taraba State. He also urged residents to remain alert and share reliable intelligence to support ongoing security efforts.
