Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled multiple kidnap attempts in Zamfara State, rescuing the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr Aminu Yusuf, his family and 21 other civilians during separate operations.
The military said the operations, conducted on Monday, demonstrated its continued offensive against terrorist activities across the North-West.
According to the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops responded to a distress call after armed terrorists attacked the rector’s residence on Tsohon-Tasha Street in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
The attackers reportedly killed the rector’s private security guard, injured another resident and attempted to abduct Dr Yusuf and his family before troops arrived.
Security forces engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, forcing them to flee and successfully rescuing the rector and his family without injury.
In another operation later that day, troops on night patrol responded to reports of an attempted abduction in Tungan Dorawa community, Barkeji Village. Despite the challenging terrain, they pursued the attackers, engaged them and foiled the kidnap attempt.
The military also said troops confronted another group of terrorists targeting a businessman, Alhaji Azaria, for abduction. The intervention forced the attackers to abandon their mission, leading to the rescue of the businessman and 21 other civilians abducted from nearby homes.
Meanwhile, troops arrested a 45-year-old suspected terrorist informant, Falalu Yusuf, who is alleged to have aided the attackers. He has been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism, reaffirming its commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring peace across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
