Troops of the Nigerian Army successfully thwarted a kidnap attempt by suspected terrorist group on the 46-kmUghelli-Patani Road in Delta on Sunday.
In an announcement on its official social media handle, the Nigerian army stated that the swift reaction of its troops to a distress call led to the rescue of passengers who were abducted while traveling in a commercial bus.
Upon receiving the distress call, the troops swiftly mobilized and engaged the terrorists, who were armed with various weapons.
A fierce firefight erupted, forcing the terrorists to abandon their captives and flee the scene.
“The rescued passengers have been taken into safe custody, where they are receiving necessary care and support.
“Meanwhile, the troops are currently pursuing the fleeing terrorists,” it said.
