A bomb explosion at an Islamic school in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has claimed two lives and injured two others.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday morning at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin, within the nation’s capital.

In a statement, FCT police spokesperson Josephine Adeh revealed that police operatives, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, were immediately deployed to the scene.

“The area was cordoned off to ensure the safety of residents and enable a thorough investigation,” Adeh stated.

Preliminary findings suggest that three men from Katsina visited the school’s owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, and are suspected of bringing the explosive device.

“Two of the men tragically died while tampering with the improvised explosive device (IED) on the school’s veranda. The third man and a female trader sustained serious injuries and are receiving medical care under police guard,” she added.

The FCT Bomb Squad confirmed the explosion as an IED, with remnants of the device recovered.

The school’s owner has been detained for questioning, and further updates are expected as investigations continue.

FCT Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour or items resembling explosive devices to the authorities.
