Two killed as car crash in Anambra

A road accident happened took place late Tuesday at Tempo on the Nteje-Onitsha Expressway in Anambra State, 300 meters from Odumodu junction.

A commercial Toyota Sienna with the licence plate LND502YE and registered to Young Shall Grow Motors was the only vehicle involved in the accident.

Witnesses said that the speeding driver lost control of the car, which somersaulted after hitting a pedestrian crossing the motorway, before crashing.

Four adult males and three adult females were among the seven people who were reportedly involved in the collision.

According to the reports, one person inside the car and one pedestrian—a woman crossing the street—died, while four adults—four men and one woman—were injured in varied degrees.

The Federal Road Safety Corps’ acting Sector Public Education Officer, Margaret Onabe, confirmed the accident on Wednesday and said that excessive speeding may have contributed to the collision.

Onabe claimed that the first responders from the FRSC at Nteje hurried the injured victims to Beatrice Specialist Hospital, Umunya, where the fatalities were later determined.

She said, “The FRSC personnel at RS5.33 Nteje Unit Command on ground managed the traffic and ensured obstruction caused by the crash was cleared.

“The Sector Commander, Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, sympathised with the families of the dead victims and sent his prayers to the injured persons.

“He urged motorist to maintain safe speed, drive within speculated speed limit, to arrive their destination alive. Kill the speed now before it kills you.”
