Two killed, properties worth millions destroyed as gas tanker explodes in Delta

Two persons have been confirmed dead with over twenty houses and properties worth millions of naira destroyed following an accident involving a Liquefied Petroleum Gas tanker and a granite truck in Ohoror community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The explosion according to the residents occurred around 3:00a.m on Thursday when the granite truck rammed into the stationed LPG tanker at Ohoror junction axis of the east/west road killing the drivers of the vehicles, destroying residential buildings and properties worth millions of naira.

Residents of the area were rendered homeless and stranded due to the aftermath of the explosion.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa visited the scene of the accident and condoled with the victims.

Other dignitaries who visited the scene alongside the governor include Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Sherrif Oborevwori and Chairman Of Ughelli North, Godwin Adode who briefed the governor about the impact of the disaster.

Governor Okowa assured that the government will take proactive steps to cushion the effect of the inferno on victims.

He also called for an immediate assessment of the major causes of the gas explosion, directing the state director of fire service to remain on the ground till the tanker conveying gas and posing a threat to the community is evacuated.

Meanwhile, members of the community have been advised to stay away from the explosion scene, remain vigilant to avoid further loss of lives and property.
