Two yet-to-be identified car drivers have reportedly knocked down two policemen on stop-and-search duties around Oshodi, Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Friday about 7:30 p.m., while the officers were on duty at 7/8 Bus Stop in Oshodi, Lagos.
According to a source, the attack on the police officers was carried out by the drivers of a Toyota Camry and a Lexus 350, the licence plates of which were not yet known.
Police officers were flagging down the drivers of the vehicles for a stop and search.
“But immediately they sighted the police, they increased the speed at which they were moving and knocked down two policemen, Inspector Alabi Kayode and Inspector Edukpe Oronya,” it was gathered from the source.
The source informed that Inspector Kayode sustained severe injuries on his head and left hand.
It was also stated that the second officer, Oronya, was “rolled over by the two vehicles.”
The two unknown drivers attempted to “snatch the rifles with the officers after they had knocked them down.”
However, the swift intervention of their colleagues was said to have saved the rifles from being stolen away by the daredevil car drivers.
The officers were immediately rushed to Divine Grace Hospital in Mafoluku–Oshodi, for medical attention, while an investigation is ongoing.
Efforts to get the reactions of the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
When our correspondent called Hundeyin, he picked up the call, but immediately the reporter introduced himself, he requested that a text be sent to him.
“Can you text me a message? Just text me a message,” he said.
A text message was sent to Hundeyin at 10:10 a.m. on Sunday and another one at 12:05 p.m. A message was also sent to him on WhatsApp at 1:01 p.m.
Hundeyin has yet to reply to any of the messages, nor did he answer another call made to him later in the evening.
