Two local miners have been killed in Gangare community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday, leaving residents mourning and renewing concerns about the safety of miners and people living in rural communities across the state.
The spokesman for the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident and described it as a sad development.
Tengwong expressed concern over the deaths, stating that the two miners were reportedly carrying out their activities when they were killed.
He said, “This is sad. We urge security operatives to investigate the incident, go after those responsible and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to book.”
A community member, Mrs Martha Dalyop, also confirmed the incident, saying the victims were at the mining site when they were killed.
Dalyop said, “The boys were mining when they were killed. This is sad.”
She called on security agencies to investigate the killings and other recent violent incidents in the state, while ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
As of press time, efforts to obtain confirmation from security operatives were unsuccessful.
