Uche Ikonne: Abia PDP announces new date for fresh gubernatorial primary

Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced a new date for the gubernatorial primary of the party.

The primary is coming on the heels of the death of the governorship candidate of the party, Prof. Uche Ikonne.

A statement issued Friday evening by the state Publicity Secretary of the party and state vice chairman Abia North, Hon. Amah Abraham, has it that the new primary would hold on Saturday, February 4 by 10am at the Umuahia Township Stadium, Umuahia North local government area of the state.

According to Amah, sale of both Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms begins today (Friday) January 27 to end on Wednesday February 1, 2023.

He admonished all interested aspirants were requested to collect both forms from the PDP Headquarters at Wadata Plaza, Wuse Abuja, adding that all the aspirants were expected to present themselves to the State Working Committee, SWC, of the Abia PDP on Friday February 2, 2023 at the State Secretariat, Finbars Street, Umuahia by 12: 00 pm.

Following the death of Prof. Uche Ikonne, the Abia PDP gubernatorial candidate on Wednesday January 25, 2023 and the subsequent directive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which relied upon the provisions of the New Electoral Act on the replacement of candidates arising from death, the Abia PDP wishes to inform its members that a date for the primary election to nominate a new candidate to replace late Prof. Uche Ikonne has been scheduled as Saturday February 4, 2023 by10:00 am prompt at Umuahia Township Stadium, Umuahia,” the statement said.
