A 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl were found guilty on Tuesday of manslaughter for the death of an 80-year-old grandfather, in one of several disturbing cases of youth violence that have shocked the UK.
The teenagers, who cannot be named due to their age, were convicted following a six-week trial for the manslaughter of Bhim Kohli, who died after being attacked in a park in Braunstone, near Leicester, on September 1.
The court heard that the boy racially abused Kohli and slapped him in the face with a shoe while the elderly man was walking his dog. The girl reportedly encouraged the attack and filmed it on her phone while laughing.
Kohli passed away in hospital the following day after suffering a broken neck and rib fractures.
While the boy had also been charged with murder, he was acquitted of that charge.
The pair will be sentenced on May 20.
