UNGA: US First Lady Jill Biden bids farewell to visiting First Ladies

The First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, has bid farewell to visiting First Ladies, including Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during the 79th United Nations General Assembly.

In a luncheon she hosted for the First Ladies, Jill Biden reflected on the significance of their interactions, noting that this would be the last such event she hosts as the U.S. First Lady.

She emphasized the enduring bond they have built through their shared efforts to promote global peace and drive development in their respective countries, a connection she believes will continue beyond January of next year when she is set to leave her role as First Lady.

“I appreciate you all for always coming for this gathering, I have a great feeling that I will be seeing more of you in my next chapter of life. I wish you all the best as you all return to your various countries as it has come to my notice that many of you have a long way back home,” the US First Lady was quoted to have said in a statement by the media aide of Remi Tinubu, Busola Kukoyi.

Lunch events are a common feature on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, providing opportunities for world leaders and their delegations to engage in bilateral discussions, establish partnerships, and strengthen diplomatic relationships.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, attended such a lunch at Pier 57 in New York, marking the conclusion of her engagements and participation at the 79th session of UNGA.
