Unpaid workers storm Gombe government house
The staff of the Gombe State Environmental Protection Agency stormed the Gombe State Government House in protest at purportedly unpaid wages for three months.
Reports indicate that protesters carrying placards and green leaves were spotted walking from the Terminus Roundabout to the Government House.
In April 2022, a similar protest occurred, during which the cleaners claimed that they were owed money despite rumours that they would be replaced by new management, adding that their former management had cheated them.
Some of the workers who talked to the media on the condition of anonymity asserted that Governor Muhammadu Yahaya claimed in his recent media interview that all outstanding payments had been made.
“For over three months we have not been working without our pay, we have wives, children, and bills to pay. It is not true that we have been paid as claimed by Governor Yahaya,” the protesters disclosed.
On his part, The General Manager, GOSEPA, Muhammad Kumo, who refused to issue an official statement, arrived almost immediately and tried to quell the protest.
He promised to look into the issue while pleading with the protesters to disperse.
