US Democratic Primaries: Biden takes Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, Sanders Vermont

Former US Vice President Joe Biden has been projected to win North Carolina, Virginia and Alabama, while Senator Bernie Sanders easily won home state of Vermont.

This is according to multiple projections by big media networks after the end of voting in those states. Elections are holding in 14 states, along with American Samoa and Democrats abroad, to enable Democratic candidates pick delegates.

Virginia has 99 delegates and Vermont’s 16.`Polls in the two states closed first at 7 pm Eastern time (midnight GMT).

North Carolina has 110 delegates, which was also given to Biden.

More early results are being expected in Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, Massachusetts and Maine.

Tennessee has extended voting past 8 p.m. due to the deadly tornadoes in Nashville.

Voting will end last in California.
