Two individuals were reportedly killed after gunshots erupted at a Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania, with armed security rushing the injured former president off stage.
The Butler County District Attorney told the Associated Press (AP) that a shooter and a rally participant had died.
Trump was giving a speech at the gathering when he looked to collapse to the ground, clutching his ear.
He was instantly surrounded by armed guards and remained down for about a minute.
He then stood up, pumped his fist in the air, and shouted “fight” before being led off stage and into a vehicle.
Then he was driven away from the site. As he was hauled away, the footage appeared to show blood gushing from his ear.
The US Secret Service stated that Trump is now “safe” and that precautionary precautions have been put around the former president.
It also stated that an investigation had been initiated, but provided no further specifics.
“This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available,” Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said in a post on X.
Trump’s campaign said he was “fine” following the incident.
“President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act,” spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement.
“He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow.”
