The death toll from the devastating twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela last month has climbed to 4,333, according to National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez.

The powerful 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes, which hit Caracas and the coastal state of La Guaira on June 24, destroyed numerous buildings and left thousands homeless.

Rodriguez said more than 19,000 displaced people are currently living in temporary shelters set up in stadiums, public squares and other open spaces. Medical teams, including local and international volunteers, continue to provide healthcare and distribute food to affected residents.

Authorities have not disclosed the number of people still missing as rescue and recovery efforts continue across the disaster-stricken areas.
