Veteran journalist, Peter Enahoro, dies at 88

Peter Enahoro, a veteran journalist and one of Nigeria’s most well-known columnists, has passed away.

Enahoro, better known by his pen name Peter Pan, passed away in London, England, on Monday at the age of 88.

The most prominent female journalist in Nigeria, Ms. Bunmi Sofola, revealed the news in a succinct statement.

The statement read in part, “Regret to announce the passing on of our iconic journalist Peter Enahoro “Peter Pan” today in London at the age of 88. RIP.

“Also known by the pen name of “Peter Pan” because of his popular column in New African magazine under that name. He has been described as ‘perhaps Africa’s best-known international journalist’”.

Enahoro, who was born on January 21st, 1935, was a journalist, author, businessperson, and publisher.

The late columnist, who was one of Nigeria’s first journalists, was appointed editor of the Daily Times at an early age.

Enahoro studied at the esteemed Government College in Ughelli (in modern-day Delta State), where he shared a classroom with JP Clark, a renowned poet and Africa’s first professor of English.
