The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Ordue, has reiterated that bail is free across Nigeria, warning that anyone who offers a bribe to police officers will be arrested.

Ordue said parties involved in police cases sometimes attempt to put pressure on officers, a situation that could lead to demands for money during the bail process.

The police commissioner, however, warned that the command would not tolerate bribery, stressing that anyone caught offering a bribe would face arrest.

“Bail is free across Nigeria. Parties involved sometimes try to pressurise the police, but we are going to arrest anybody who offers a bribe,” he said.

His warning serves as a reminder to members of the public that they are not required to pay money to secure bail from the police.

Bail is a temporary release from custody while a criminal investigation or court case continues, subject to applicable legal conditions.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any police officer who demands money for bail through the appropriate authorities rather than paying an illegal fee.
