A dramatic incident occurred on Thursday at the Lagos State High Court when a judge ordered the arrest of a man accused of impersonating a lawyer.

The man, who appeared in court dressed in legal attire to represent a client, was taken into custody after the judge raised questions about his status as a qualified legal practitioner.

In the footage which has circulated online, the judge was heard saying, “Remove that wig. I’m ordering his arrest right away. Police, arrest him!”

The situation became more dramatic when the man allegedly attempted to flee the courtroom following the arrest order.

“Officer, there’s an impostor here. This man is not a lawyer. Remove your wig and gown. You are not a lawyer. I want you to arrest him,” the judge said.

The development comes about a month after the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja convicted a 55-year-old man for impersonating a legal practitioner and fraudulently using a counterfeit seal of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA.
