The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has asked individuals to replace their prepaid metres before November 2024.
Users who do not update their metres by the deadline will be unable to recharge their prepaid metres, according to the regulatory authority.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, NERC stated that upgrading the metres is free of charge.
According to the regulator, power distribution companies (DisCos) will begin issuing free tokens to facilitate the update.
“If you have a prepaid metre, it may be time for an update,” according to a portion of the article.
“From November, 2024, you may not be able to recharge your meter. However, updating is easy and free. DisCos shall commence issuance of 2 free Key Change Tokens (KCTs) which will update your meter.
“The update will not affect the units in your meter nor will it make your meter run faster than usual.”
