A shocking video has surfaced online showing a self-proclaimed repentant member of the extremist group Boko Haram confessing to a series of horrific crimes, including mass killings and sexual violence, sparking outrage across Nigeria.

The footage, reportedly recorded inside a government-run rehabilitation camp in Maiduguri, features the ex-fighter speaking during an interview with Danish vlogger Jones Raw. In the video, the man openly admitted to killing more than 100 Nigerians during his time with the insurgent group.

He also confessed to raping several women, describing acts that have reignited public anger over the treatment of former insurgents undergoing rehabilitation.

According to the interview, the ex-fighter revealed that women abducted by Boko Haram were routinely forced into marriage with members of the group, highlighting the systematic abuse faced by captives. These claims align with long-standing reports that the group engages in forced marriages, abductions, and sexual exploitation of women and girls.

The video has intensified criticism of the Federal Government’s deradicalisation and reintegration programme, widely known as Operation Safe Corridor. While authorities argue that the initiative encourages fighters to surrender and helps reduce insurgency, many Nigerians believe individuals who committed such grave crimes should face prosecution instead of rehabilitation.

Human rights advocates and members of the public have questioned how individuals who openly admit to mass atrocities are being prepared for reintegration into society, especially while victims continue to suffer displacement and trauma.

The controversy has sparked renewed calls for a review of the programme, with many demanding stricter measures to ensure justice for victims of the insurgency.

The Boko Haram insurgency, which began in 2009, has led to thousands of deaths and widespread displacement, particularly in northeastern Nigeria. Over the years, the group has been notorious for targeting civilians, abducting women and children, and carrying out brutal attacks across the region.

As the video continues to circulate, pressure is mounting on authorities to clarify their stance on accountability and justice for victims of terrorism.
